We are challenging you to create a card or any other papercraft project for any occasion, and your creation must showcase your best skills.

I know many people are still fighting the snow and some don't have any snow. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are excited for the new year that is upon us. If you are like me, you are waiting for the first signs of Spring.

Firstly, Nettie and I would like to say a great big thank you to all of you for your fabulous entries in the last challenge. Sadly, no-one used the sponsored sentiment from Digistamps 4 Joy, so we have no winner to announce.

It is so close to Christmas, the cards are sent out, the tree is trimmed and the decorations are hung .... now all we need to do is wrap those gifts. Are you one of those that has made just a couple of tags short of what you need? I know I am, so, for our new challenge, we'd like you to ...

Make a Christmas tag, using the non-traditional colours of pink, blue and lilac as the dominant colours. You may, of course, use the neutrals for hair and skin, but we'd like you to keep these to a minimum.

The DT is "on vacation" this week, and the new challenge on the challenge blog starts next Monday.

We all love working with Nettie G's images right, so we are having...CDAC Group "Quickfire" Mini Challenge.

Create a papercraft project using one of Nettie G's images (it needn't be a card at all!), and upload it to our CDAC group, so that we can all ooh and aah ...

Add it to the CDAC gallery using the tag NGDG#1 before the new challenge goes live on the Challenge Blog, and you have the chance to win an image of your choice and an invitation to be the Guest Designer on one of the upcoming challenges.

You need to be a member of CDAC to take part.

If you aren't a member of CDAC,

A Little Something for All our Visitors and Participants in our Challenge

Just wondering if you happen to know that biscuits rust?

I laugh about the things children say, but when I stop and think; they interpret things with what they have learned in their short life. We may think it odd, their choice of descriptive words, but they choose, from the only ones they know, to describe the thing they see, hear and other ways experience.

When we moved back to Mississippi from Virginia, and on the first morning, Mom and I were preparing breakfast. My children, five and three years of age, became aware of the difference between the stove my mother had and the eye level I had. They had never seen the process of biscuits baking.

Mom set the timer and we got a cup of coffee and went to the living room and began to catch up about family and friends as we waited for the biscuits to get done. We need not have worried because with the help of the oven light, the children kept us apprised of the progress of the baking biscuits.

"They are puffin' up!" Was the message they brought a few times. Then came, "They are making bubbles on top!" And, finally a few moments of quiet, as they must have stood peering into the oven window.

Then our semi-quiet was broken by the patter of little running feet accompanying "Hurry! Hurry! Mommy, Granny! Come on, hurry!"

We met them at the doorway, and they grabbed at us, pulling us with them.

"What is all the excitement and hurry?" Mom ask.

"The bisticks are rustin'! Hurry, they are rustin!" was the exasperated answer from the kids.

We looked at each other with unasked questions and suppressed laughter as the ding, ding of the timer sounded.

The things we take for granted because we have become so used to them are all new and bring quite different and sometimes funny responses from little ones.

Keep a book of all the things your little ones say, use them in a card and/or save them to read when they are grown and have children of their own. Give them a little book to share with their children. You will never lose those special memories that are so very sweet in your later years. I know because I can read over things I have kept, and that sweet feeling deep within the place my memories live, comes to life and with my eyes closed, I can almost hear their little voices again..

This is going to make you think outside the box.

Color your image as you normally would.

Attach to whatever background you choose.

Now, Lay out color matched prints, stripes, plaids, etc.

From these papers above choose 3 plus any other

solid for a toral of 5 colors counting your backing

piece, for the card base.

Lay your image and backing paper on each of your

choices, layering with the papers in several different

positions to see the one that is different, but really

excites you visually......”Stepping out of the box”

Now, decide how you will use these on your card. You

treat these papers the same as any other papers you would use on your card.

NettieG drew this image as a tribute to her mom.

I asked NettieG to tell me about her and these words are from NettieG...

Mom was all heart. She had a sweet, gentle spirit, and it showed in her relationships to others. She loved reading to children, and if there was no book available, she would sit in her rocking chair and recite children's rhymes in her soft sing-song voice. Children never complained, and they would sit quietly or repeating or joining her recitation of their favorite ones.

I had never heard her sing, and one day after she put a sleeping child down for a nap, I asked her, why?

Her response to me was,"I cannot carry a tune in a tin bucket." I asked her why on earth would she say that.

She said when she was a half grown girl, she was singing, and someone told her she shouldn't sing because she couldn't carry a tune in a tin bucket. She said she had never sang aloud since. But, she continued and told me,

"One day, I will sing, and I know I will have a beautiful voice." I know that is true, beyond a doubt. I can hardly wait to hear her sing her praises to God and Jesus.

Durban, South African based Jen Leeflang finally ignored the advice of a school's career counselor who 'wisely' told her there was "no career in art". Years later, her artistic and creative skills have resulted in a business which keeps her extremely busy and feeds her artistic soul! Jen’s ‘signature’ can be found in the sequins, beads and rhinestones she sews onto her cards, a carryover from her belly dance costume making.
From papercrafts, painting, and drawing to needlecrafts where she designs, makes and beads belly dance show costumes; from creating designs from scratch to copying a pattern or just an idea from a customer, she is able to do amazing things with paper, card, fabrics, beads, sequins and crystals. Jen has been married to Pete for over 21 years, and they have 3 sons, Nicholas, Blayne and Kellan.

Good morning lovely ladies working on the lovely vintage Eliza! I hope each of you who entered the first part of the Fashion Challenge have received your second image. If not please send me an e-mail. If you have just found out about the Challenge, you can still enter. You cannot enter to win any prize from the first part because it officially closed at 11:59pm Sunday night, but you may get Eliza in her corset and stockings to construct cards for your use.

Image Two which, when completed and submitted, gives you the right to receive the final image of the group which you will choose for yourself. You will receive instructions in the final email about how to do this. Imag Three will qualifiy you for a chance to win one of two prizes. Prize for the best use of color is an image of your choice from NettieG's Digital Gems plus a special package of digi papers, digi lace patterns and digi decorative designs to use in your creations. Prize for the best use of embellishments is an image of your choice from NettieG's Digital Gems plus a special package of embellishments from Pizzazz Aplenty , who has graciously been a sponsor of this Challenge. The ladies are coming out with their petticoats by designers.

This lovely lady is Candy and she is not known as the "Purple Card Lady" for no reason. Her design is full of 'purple passion' almost 'plumish' in flavor! Oh, makes me want to rush out to the fruit stand for a bushel or two!

Now, we have lovely Melissa showing her creation for Eliza.

Eliza blushes demurely as she walks out on the runway. Look! I wonder where Melissa found those pieces of vintage lace she used on the bottom ruffle and as binding for the front of the petticoat? The pink is the perfect foil for the aged lace inserts. How lovely!

For our last show, here comes lovely Peggy followed by Eliza as she steps onto the runway.

Peggy has done wonders with soft, baby pink, but there is no doubt Eliza is NOT a baby. Satin, pearls and lace; such a lovely petticoat for such a lovely lady. There is no doubt that any lady would want to wear this under her clothing.

Lets give all the ladies and round of applause and a shout of praise at all their beautiful handiwork they have done on their beautiful designs. Thank you ladies.

CDAC Challenges start January 27, and I am sure some of you plan to participate. I do not feel you will have a problem doing that because the Fashion Challenge will be winding down as we will be into our fourth day of the final challenge. I will be hosting the sketch challenge and if you participate, you will receive the lovely image of a young pre-teen girl who can be the image of several different kinds of cards from Birthdays to Valentine's Day.

If you are running behind, you still have two days to complete the First part of the Fashion Challenge. I know that Saturday and Sunday are sometimes the busiest days of the week because you have to cram everything you cannot do during the work week into those two days. I also know that some of you claim those two days for yourself to do what you want to do, do what you enjoy doing or you save them for strictly family days.

My family days were spent driving an activity bus for the high school Choir, Band and BETA Club because both my children were in the Band and BETA Club. In order to spend time with them, I gave up my " free" time as a teacher and qualified to drive a school bus, and I went with them to football games, band contests and BETA Club trips. Neither sang in the Choir, but being qualified to drive a bus placed a qualified driver on a list of activity bus drivers. Interaction with the students was a big plus with the instructors and chaperons, so that put me on their request lists. I miss being a part of that community in the educational system of our small town. I am still remembered and it gives me pleasure and pride in what I have given the kids with whom I had contact during the years I taught school.

She is such a jewel and friend and I will miss her and how she took care of everything so I could work on new 'digis'. The New Year, 2011

We are starting a new year and NettieG's Digital Gems is starting out with a "BANG!". We have two challenges "right out of the gate". One Challenge begins January 10th with a Fashion Show which is sponsored by Pizzazz Aplenty! The second challenge is CDAC Challenge 16 and NettieG's Digital Gems is the sponsor of the Sketch Challenge, and the date is January 27th. This is going to be a great month!

The Fashion Show is to introduce my new digi set which includes 5 pieces for $5.50. This is a set including a vintage 1910 lady with clothing articles of that era. You can dress her in ways to represent whatever kind of card you choose to make: Valentine, Birthday, Lady Friend, Note Cards, etc.

The sketch challenge introduces my newest digi of a pre-teen girl which is suitable for Birthday, Valentine or others where you would need a card for a girl of that age.

Thanks so much for choosing my creation for your second prize. As I told you, the sewing Christmas Tree image is very special to me as my other passion is the design, creation and beading of belly dance costumes. I have lost count of the number of costumes I have made to date, and the number of beaded bra's number even more. I have a stash of sequins, beads, rhinestones and trims to make anyone envious, and regularly (almost always) use those on my papercraft creations. In fact, I would rather sew my embellishments onto my cards than use glue.

So as you can see, the sewing Christmas Tree could have been created especially for me, as I could embellish with all my little goodies without fear of overdoing it!

Another Weekend and I See the Sun

Do you find that sunshine will make your spirits higher even if you are not able to go outside? I know I do. Being house bound for the most part, has given me time to discover that for myself. On dull overcast days, it seems as if there is a dreariness/depression over everything, but when the sun is shinning, everything seems to have a brightness about it. Even my spirits.

We did some more Christmas shopping last night at Toys R Us. There were so many people there that you "could hardly stir them with a stick" as my grandparents used to say!

Today is the second day of our Group Challenge, and I am excited to see how many more people will join in with the challenge. We got two new people in the group, yesterday!

The First of our Group Challenges

I hope ALL of you ladies want to participate in our group challenges. It would be great if you would, but I understand "life" happens, at times, laugh. And, we all belong to so many groups that we would be making cards every minute of the day if we want to do a card for each one. We look at their images and we cannot resist being able to be part of them - I'm not going to say all the reasons we join...........

ANYWAY...... You get a free digi for each challenge in which you participate if you start within the first couple of days after the challenge starts, and I love it - giving you a free image. It is wonderful to see what you make! Of course, those of you in the Design Team not only get the new image in every challenge, but you get to choose 5 other free digital images just for being on the team. What do I get? Enjoyment mostly, and hopefully, people wanting to purchase images. But, you know what? If I make friends of some of you, I will say I have gained so much more. How is everyone this morning? Today, the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, is not a celebration of the attack, but a celebration of the ability of a Nation of people who are able to stand up despite the horror, anguish, and torn emotions of the loss and move forward in a cause. A cause to rid the world of the leader of Nazi Germany and those who believe as he, who decides who lives or dies because of their race.

Many Germans were in that same position of being Jewish, and therefore unworthy of owning anything or being in a position of educator, business owner, doctor or other such persons. Most peoples of Germany would have never followed Hitler except that he held his own people in fear for their lives and their families lives.

We, as Americans, must never allow this type of individual to come into a position of power anywhere where we have a choice. I hate war, but when a nation pleads, "help us", we must do what we can; otherwise, if perchance we, as a nation, pleads, "help us", we need to know that nations will come to our aid.

Many, many members of my family have served in our military over the years, as did I, during Vietnam; and some gave their lives, some came home wounded and some came home to suffer emotional scars that continue even today. My brother battles daily to maintain his emotional health that was caused by what he witnessed in Vietnam, but he is proud of his service as displayed on his vehicle tag, "I am a Vietnam Vet" and his cap, "I'm a proud Vietnam Vet". I salute them all!!

Working Towards Putting Our Group Forward

I did not realize how I would feel in getting the group ready for creating beautiful cards using my images. I am filled with excitement at what can be done with glitter, ribbons, edgers, etc., etc. I am an artist, painter, sculptor and I can make cloth dolls and so many other things. But, to see my images converted into a work of art through crafting methods is something I never imagined. It brings a whole new dimension to the 2 dimensions of a card or a sketch.

You are getting a chance to staple, fold and mutilate, lol, images from artwork that has been part of my life for years. I am excited and happy to share these with you. At some point, you will be using new images that I will be creating for the purpose as a digital stamp, but right now, you have the privilege of delving into my Treasure Chest of artistic memories.

I have posted some of my Christmas Cards that have become my trademarks over the years, and if you chose, you can compare the original card with those created by the ladies at CDAC. I do not mind the comparison as long as it is given as a critique. Everyone wants to improve in whatever they do. I am no exception to that.

I truly believe God place me at CDAC and placed you in my life. You have made this a beautiful day for me. You have worked hard to get the Group and me off to a great start. It has far exceeded my expectations! My unsureness at steping out after the many years my pencils and pens have lay in their boxes, undisturbed, has rekindeled the desire and love of creating the art through the ability that God gave me. Curiously, it is like breathing after holding my breath overlong. Thank you, Father! Thank you, Friends!
